Where we are now, a review

Studies sponsored by the world of democratic countries use a variety of metrics to assess the health and viability of democracies. By those measures two independent studies rate the quality of our country’s democracy as decreasing and even to the point of potentially failing. Many of the metrics have to do with how well the governance is supporting the people governed and include such things as poverty rates, wealth gap, education, election integrity, and polarization that has and will continue to foster civil unrest.

The point is that the world looking in and sees that our democracy is failing, that our government is not working, and that our people are suffering. Our democracy is flailing due to willful disinformation and the ability of our legislators to sell political favor to special interests. During trump’s reign of terror, we put up ‘for sale’ signs and sold all three branches of our governance to the will of big-money special interests. … … …

Biden’s BBB is directed toward addressing many of these issues as does HR.1 and the John Lewis voting rights legislative packages. It now appears that the coordinated influx of special interest funding will be able to submarine the Democratic Party’s attempt to restore our teetering democracy, and actively working to subvert the will of the people by inserting partisanship into the voting processes, gerrymandering ‘science’ and suppression of voting rights for unsupportive demographics. … … …

If our democracy fails, historians will accurately record it’s failure as being due to three principal architects – none of which includes trump. Trump was just the doofus who exploited and made visible the corruption that already was firmly in place. … … …

Gingrich is the first architect for weaponizing politics by considering the Democratic Party as an enemy that they needed to go to war with. To win that war, they needed to regiment their members to speak with one voice and block-vote, publicly speak in accordance with carefully curated lists of ‘talking points’ and to shun or punish anyone who dared to not agree with the party line. … … …

This is how the Republican Party eventually became the Republican Faction – a party that only exists to protect itself even if it means cheating and dirty tricks in order to win or use any means to beat their enemy, the Democrats. Eventually the Faction has grown into a cult. The Republican Cult maintains all of the trappings of the faction and adds willful collusion with other organizations to assure that they win unearned political power, including intentional mal-information, whipsawing their supposed rock-solid ‘principles’ whenever it becomes politically expedient, aiding and abetting the development of a very profitable right-wing propaganda business, actively finding means to subvert the will of the people by messing with voting rights, and unprecedented use of the filibuster to avoid accountability by not having to debate or vote on popular legislation supported by the majority. … … …

The second architect of the destruction of our democracy will be seen as Mitch McConnell who personally pushed ‘Citizen’s United’ through the Supreme Court. This made it easy to sell political favor to special interests and provided massive funds to the Republican Cult to control and purge members who dare not to toe the party line as well as studying the ways to best gerrymander voting districts and deep studies of constitutional law to find ways to subvert constitutional controls. For example, the Texas abortion law was coordinated with the RNC and it appears with the Federalist society as well. … … …

RNC funded studies were also behind their somewhat successful attempts to screw with the census by implicit threats to Hispanic citizens and anyone that they might know to be undocumented. Instead of extending the Census count by two months as requested due to the pandemic which impeded the street counts used to assure statistical accuracies, it was stopped a month earlier so that a Republican President would be in charge of resolving count issues, the means of estimating the counts where needed and generally controlling the process. … … …

McConnell also trashed the norms which had always been honored in the Senate because there were no specific rules that prevented him from doing so. He single-handedly trash canned any legislative package authored by his political enemy, the Democratic House. The ‘world’s greatest deliberative body’ never had a chance to even see House Legislation. He refused to even consider Obama’s vetted Supreme Court nominee for almost a year, violating established norms because there were no rules that said he could not. He sponsored trump’s transferring the nomination of judicial appointees to the Federalist society who provided many appointees without executive branch vetting that the ABA rated as unqualified or inexperienced, but all of whom demonstrated the views that the wealthy funded society wanted to see. This includes three Supreme Court Justices who were confirmed with a filibuster-proofed process for the first time (I believe) since filibuster existed. He even whip-sawed his highly ‘principled’ justification of holding Obama’s Supreme Court nominee for almost a year and confirmed a Federalist Society’s Supreme Court nominee in record time in a filibuster-proofed vote just days before the election. … … …

McConnell also gradually changed the filibuster into a one and done act by a single Senator who has to do nothing more than make a phone call. No-one has to be accountable to the public by having to vote or publicly debate legislation that the people support but Senatorial benefactors do not. McConnell endorses vaccinations but refuses to condemn those spreading disinformation. McConnell refused to budge on voting rights legislation as the RNC continues to foster the notion that the election was fraudulent and the RNC guides the State Republican legislatures to limit voting rights of demographics not pre-disposed to their disinformation.

The Republican Cult is systematically removing anyone that foiled or could foil an attempted coup by honorably standing their ground despite massive pressure exerted personally by the trump, and are inserting partisan operatives at every level of voter registration, voter acceptance and vote counting – including the ability of the Republican legislatures to simply ignore the will of the people by replacing their votes with the will of the legislature. … … …

Yes, our democracy is in jeopardy. The third architect of our democracy’s destruction would be Joe Manchin for single-handedly nailing the coffin shut. His role has been discussed extensively already. … … …

There you have it, the three architects of our democracies destruction. … … … Historians might include the trump as the doofus catalyst and then history could aptly name them ‘The Four Horsemen of Democracy’s Apocalypse’.
