A response to HR5314

Here is the trump’s Office of the President internal strategy document for overturning the election on January 6th and a compelling consequence of not having this proposed legislation in effect (thanks to NoHedges): https://cdn.cnn.com/cnn/2021/images/09/20/eastman.memo.pdf … … …

The Republican Cartel that currently exists and its willful undermining of the institutions of a functional democracy would not and could not exist if these limitations were in effect for the trump; checks on presidential qualifications, involvement with foreign nationals, undermining the ability of IG’s to do their jobs if they get close to uncovering presidential abuses and support to strengthen the ability of Congress to exercise their Constitutional duty of providing checks of the executive branch in a meaningful and timely manner. … … …

The trump, McConnell and the Republican Cartel all have and are still ignoring the standards and norms that used to provide the bond of public trust that held the institutions of a functional democracy together. When the institution of the Office of the President ignores the norms that have held the pieces-parts of a functional democratic governance together, it becomes much easier for everyone to ignore behavioral norms. If this is allowed to continue and spread, the future of our treasured democratic governance is imperiled. … … …

This legislation makes breaking norms harder by limiting the ability of the executive branch to do so – and is necessary because the trump in cahoots with the Republican Cartel has broken and is still breaking the critical bond of trust that the government is governing for the benefit of the country. … … …

Legislated rules to limit our Chief Executive’s ability to break trust in our government are necessary since the norms have already been broken and now emulated by State governments that, with coordinated oversight from the RNC, are tearing down the formerly non-partisan oversight, coordination, and counting of votes. … … … This is a clear case of a problem that can be resolved by correcting the problem at the top and letting the example ‘trickle down’ through the rest of governance
